Johnny Depp’s attorneys said their client is “not like Harvey Weinstein” in the light of the documentary featuring Amber Heard.

Lawyers for Johnny Depp in his defamation suit against Amber Heard claimed he is “not like Bill Cosby or Harvey Weinstein,” contrasting the case with the #MeToo movement.

After his ex-wife spoke up about the abuse she suffered at the hands of Depp in an op-ed essay published in 2018, Depp filed a $50 million lawsuit against her.

His legal team claimed the publication implied he had physically and sexually mistreated the Aquaman actress throughout their relationship, despite the fact that he was never identified in the piece.

The jury found in his favour and awarded him $8 million in damages; they also granted Heard $2 million on one count of her $100 million countersuit.

The spectacular six-week trial that took place earlier this year is the subject of a new documentary from Discovery+.

There was a moment where Heard’s lawyers, lead by Camille Vasquez and Ben Chew, discussed their closing arguments, which included a discussion of Heard’s accusations against the #MeToo movement.

‘My duty was to make it apparent to the jury [that] what he was seeking was his reputation back, so his children did not have to travel through life with the stigma of their father being classified a domestic abuser, a sexual predator,’ Chew said on tape.

That thing meant the world to him, the whole world.

The piece was written in the wake of the #MeToo movement. That there is a woman who, as part of the #MeToo movement, spoke up and said, “This man mistreated me,” has always struck me as remarkable. Says Jessica Meyers, another lawyer on the team, at a meeting.

This is not a MeToo moment. Yes, he abused me, too, I’m the only woman who has come forward to say this. None of these other women suddenly appeared out of nowhere.

Is it the choice to refrain from commenting, “This isn’t like Bill Cosby. The behaviour this is not typical of Harvey Weinstein. To chew, as before. We emphasise this because “in every other situation, once you have one credible accusation, you have many more.”

Heard refers to her ex-husband as a “baby” and claims that she “didn’t punch him but instead ‘struck him” during an incident that was captured on tape, which is covered later in the episode.

They questioned whether or not the matter would have gone to trial if Depp and Heard were switched.

What if Johnny Depp had stated to Amber Heard, “I’m not striking you, I’m hitting you,” Vasquez speculated. Amber, you need to mature. Quit acting like a spoiled brat. Okay, here’s a guess: To suggest that a male would never say such a thing to a woman is an understatement.

In other words, we wouldn’t even be in this room. If we had those tapes and the roles were switched, this wouldn’t be a case.

Meyers continued, “And now she’s claiming to be a public figure representing domestic abuse,” while Chew glared angrily and spat back, “Give me a break.”

The second episode, which mainly defended Heard’s position, featured renowned attorney Lisa Bloom, who did not represent either party, analysing Depp’s own testimony and concluding that he was “probably acting” when defending the horrific texts he sent to Heard.
