First Electric Range Rover Debuts After Year-Long Delay

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has officially unveiled the prototype for its long-awaited electric range rover, signalling a momentous shift in the British automaker’s flagship luxury lineage. Following a year-long delay to its original production schedule, the new all-electric SUV represents a multi-million-pound modern transformation for the Coventry-headquartered vehicle manufacturer. The official reveal of the prototype electric range rover marks JLR’s definitive entry into the full-electric luxury SUV segment. The flagship vehicle will be manufactured at JLR’s historical Solihull assembly plant in the West Midlands, supported by massive infrastructure upgrades and workforce re-skilling. The prototype launch comes after JLR reported falling quarterly profits and severe supply-chain disruptions, alongside corporate restructuring and planned job cuts designed to streamline operations.

Despite these financial headwinds, JLR has doubled down on its electrification commitments. The company confirmed that it has successfully upskilled 10,500 workers across its manufacturing network to handle high-voltage battery architecture and electric drive integration. Solihull alone accounts for 9,000 of these re-trained technicians, with an additional 1,500 workers upskilled across surrounding West Midlands facilities. Martin Limpert, Managing Director of Range Rover, praised the project, describing the new model as the direct result of a decade of “considered engineering.”

Powering the flagship luxury SUV is JLR’s specialized Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton. The facility has undergone significant upgrades to produce state-of-the-art battery packs and custom Electric Drive Units (EDUs) alongside traditional internal combustion engines, establishing a flexible manufacturing model that allows JLR to scale production in line with market demand.
